One stupid task per day

I can’t stand tedious, monotonous, dull tasks which are so pleasant to avoid and forget until the consequences start pounding on my head.

For some reason these tasks always look bigger than they are. At some point I would try convincing myself, that these tasks maybe are not that important anyway, so it’s fine to do something else. And voila, procrastination was born.

For example, I postponed repairing light in the corridor for quite a while. There were indeed quite a lot of things to take care of, the amount of tasks at work made it simpler to lie to myself that I lack time to repair the light.

The whole month has gone like a second and there’s still no light in the corridor.

Today I finally discovered new trick to force myself to at least start doing unpleasant and intimidating, but necessary tasks.

From today on, I’m going to

do at least one stupid task every day

The objective is to make the very first step, approach the intimidating mountain of task. Usually the closer you are to the mountain, the less scary it seems. On approach you suddenly start recognizing steps in the mountains and the whole road leading to the peak – final solution.

In case with lights the first step was to remove old faulty lamp, taking precautions like checking the cables for live voltage before removing the lamp.

Actually I found an old unused lamp at home which I could modify and use as a replacement, so suddenly there’s a solution in my head – the steps to the top of mountain of a task.
